Caleb turned one...the details

My Caleb turned one a week ago today and last weekend was his very first birthday party!  Here are some of the details that went into making his party special.

  • The table.  On top of (my DIY dropcloth) tablecloth, I laid out some of my favorite pictures of Caleb from the year, then covered the whole thing with a clear plastic cover.  Something fun to see and reminisce about while we eat!
  • The cupcakes. Y.U.M!  A sweet gal from church  made these lovely cupcakes for us. I gave her one of the invitations and one of the napkins and she took it from there! If you're looking for cupcakes for an event you are hosting, let me know if you want her contact info!  She is great!
  • The invitation idea I saw somewhere on Pinterest and then found some paper at Archivers that matched the color scheme we were going with.  I love the tiny paper bunting...so cute!
  • In fact I loved that bunting so much that I made some larger ones that we draped across our mantle, a few doorways, and inside a cabinet we recently added to our kitchen eating area.
  • This may come as a shock, being the photographer that I am, but we don't have a lot of photos of our kids up at our house.  It's something we plan to work on...there's nothing more we'd love in our home than to be surrounded by photos that show the joy our kids bring us on a daily basis.  Anyway...for birthdays, we use the mantle to show off some of our favorite photos of the birthday child.
  • Another tradition we have is for the birthday boy or girl to have a shirt made with their new age on it.  I find a plain shirt and buy a little bit of fabric that goes along with the theme of the party, then use some iron-on, no-sew material to apply it.
  • That's it.  He's one.  I can't believe it.  His photo shoot will be Memorial Day weekend, so I'll have more to share of my big one-year-old in a couple weeks!
